- If you don't promote yourself, nobody will
If you don't promote yourself, nobody will
Act accordingly...
Me, staring into your soul š
Hereās a sad fact about the world: Opportunities usually go to the people who are most VISIBLE, not the people who ādeserveā them.
Think about all the people youāve seen get hired/promoted even though theyāre the most clueless moronsā¦ youāre thinking āhow did this dipsh*t get this job?!ā
Iām thinking about the boss I had who was a VP and literally didnāt know how to center text in Powerpoint.
(he quietly asked me to show him how to do itā¦ I was stunned and horrified that this clown was my boss š)
He may have been an idiot, but Iāll give him credit where itās due: he was incredible at self-promotion. He was great at putting himself in the spotlight, and making sure the right people saw.
And thereās so many people out there like him.
Itās a tragic irony: the people who DESERVE opportunities the most donāt get them because theyāre humble people who donāt seek the spotlight.
And the people who DO seek the spotlight are mostly self-centered, clueless and more than happy to throw you under the bus if it makes them look better.
Basically, the world works the exact opposite of how it should š
(as you can tell, Iām a little salty about this topic)
So hereās my point: You canāt let yourself be one of those people-- the ones who get overlooked and ignored while the self-promoting ghouls get all the opportunities.
Which is the entire reason I started my YouTube channel: I was f***ing sick of all this.
Sick of other people getting credit for things Iād built, sick of making them look great while I got ignored, and sick of not getting the money I deserved.
I knew that if I didnāt promote myself, nobody was going to do it for me. Iām not really someone who naturally seeks the spotlight, but I knew I had to do itā¦
And here I am, 130 million views later: no longer invisible, and no longer teaching overpaid morons how to center text in Powerpoint.
And if that sounds familiar to you, you should be sick of it too.
So hereās my advice:
Donāt let the world push you around or ignore you!
YOU DESERVE TO BE SEEN.
I mean this from the absolute bottom of my heart: Please, please donāt let these soulless, political, social-ladder-climbing clowns steal the spotlight that YOU deserve.
(as you can tellā¦ I have some strong feelings about this š )
It might be a little uncomfortable, but you owe it to yourself (and the world) to put yourself out there and make yourself un-ignorable.
I donāt care if you do it on YouTube, LinkedIn, or MySpaceā¦ just do it in whatever way works for you.
I promise you, IT WILL BE WORTH IT. When you have an audience, you play by totally different rules than everyone else.
The fate of your business (and career) is in your control. Youāre rewarded (not punished) for showing up as your authentic self.
And the rewards compound over time: as your audience grows, you get more returns (ie $$$) from the same amount of effort.
Itās pretty great.
So my advice? Start now!
